I was very excited to review this book! It is our third Sally Lloyd-Jones book – we have absolutely loved The Jesus Storybook Bible and have been reading from it almost daily for the last 5 years. We actually have three copies of the book as well as the audio version narrated by David Suchet. We also own her children’s devotional, Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing.
Song of the Stars is a lovely little board book, just the perfect size for the small hands of toddlers and preschoolers. It is illustrated by Alison Jay with beautiful, gentle paintings using soft colours. It’s a cute, Christmas themed book focusing on the anticipation of the whole of creation leading up to the birth of the saviour and their celebration of His arrival. It uses such imagery as the stars and sky holding its breath and exclaiming “The One who made us has come to live with us!”
It is written in Sally Lloyd-Jones’ own unique and beautiful style, and anyone who loves her other books will likely also love this little gem. It is a perfect size to share with those little ones who aren’t ready to sit through the longer stories of The Jesus Storybook Bible. It will also make a great gift – I’m going to give this one to my little 2 year old nephew for Christmas; I’m sure his 4 & 5 year old siblings will also enjoy it..
I haven’t been disappointed by Sally Lloyd-Jones’ works yet, I’m going to have to get my hands on some more! Do you have any of her books in your collection? Which is your favourite?
Please note: This book was provided to me free of charge from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
